Arkansas State University Works with Academic Partnerships to put ASU’s Educational Leadership Specialist Program Online

Jonesboro, AR (PRWEB) August 09, 2011

Arkansas State University (ASU) has teamed with higher education service provider Academic Partnerships to deliver online ASU’s Specialist in Education Degree (Ed.S.) with a major in Educational Leadership. This program is designed to provide study beyond the master’s degree for individuals seeking to improve their general educational and specific professional competencies as leaders in the public schools.

According to ASU Interim Chancellor Dan Howard, “This robust online format employing the EPIC learning management system provides busy educators with the opportunity to improve their knowledge and skills while continuing their current duties and meeting other obligations. It is particularly beneficial for individuals who may be place-bound and is ideal for service members, their dependents, and veterans.”

“Arkansas State University is providing a stepping stone for leaders in education between a master’s and doctorate with this program,” said Marsha Schattner, Executive Vice President at Academic Partnerships. “By teaming with Academic Partnerships, ASU is able to provide its Educational Specialist academic program online with exceptional non-academic support from Academic Partnerships.

The start date for the five-term program is August 22, 2011. Eligible candidates must possess a master’s degree in education, three years of teaching experience, a current teaching license and written commitment from a central office administrator who will serve as a mentor.

The course comprises 30 hours of graduate work with a maximum of nine semester hours transferable from approved institutions. Coursework includes field study and a supervised internship. Candidates must complete performance-based activities in P-12 school sites and related settings.

The exit assessment will consist of an e-portfolio compiled while completing the degree program. Upon completion, all candidates seeking district administrator licensure in the state of Arkansas must have a standard building-level administrator license or a standard program administrator license and pass appropriate examination. Non-Arkansas candidates should determine requirements of the state in which their licensure is sought.

Successful completion of this program can prepare candidates to meet the requirements of superintendent certification in the state of Arkansas. In addition, the 30 hours earned from the Ed.S. program can be applied toward a doctorate in education degree at ASU.
